When we were in Florida last weekend, we got up early and went to the Myakka State Park. It was really beautiful and Josh saw his first wild alligator!! Or maybe it was a crocodile…I don’t know the difference. Anyway, the park has a really awesome canopy walk that is suspended 25 feet in the air and stretches over a “hammock canopy”. Then it leads to a viewing tower where you can see for miles. It was a really nice way to spend a hungover Sunday morning.

Florida Wedding Weekend!!!!
Holy wow - we needed this weekend. The wedding was beautiful, the bride looked amazing and we had a great reunion with friends.

These two were in rare form all weekend.

Off to Florida!!! Peace out Milwaukee. (Taken with instagram)
Warm weather means dinner on the porch. (Taken with instagram)
Happy mothers day to two of the most supportive, loving, would-drop-anything-to-help-you woman I know.
I thought this was going to be one of those stupid women’s magazine-esque articles on “how to keep your man happy!!!!” but this was actually a really inspiring read with great advice for marrieds of all ages.
My favorite:
All the crap you read in magazines about honesty, sense of humor, communication, sensitivity, date nights, couples weekends, blah blah blah can be trumped by one word: loyalty. You and your spouse are a team of two. It is you against the world. No one else is allowed on the team, and no one else will ever understand the team’s rules. This is okay. The team is not adversarial, the team does not tear its members down, the team does not sabotage the team’s success. Teammates work constantly to help and better their teammates. Loyalty means you put the other person in your marriage first all the time, and you let them put you first. Loyalty means subverting your whims or desires of the moment to better meet your spouse’s whims or desires, with the full understanding and expectation that they will be doing the same. This is the heart of everything, and it is a tricky balance. Sometimes it sways one way and sometimes the other. Sometimes he gets to be crazy, sometimes it’s your turn. Sometimes she’s in the spotlight, sometimes you. Ups and downs ultimately don’t matter, because the team endures.

It’s been a while since I posted a picture of Boston sleeping so here is one of him using my hoodie as a blanket. Of course he is.
While I was showering, I spotted a spider above my head. No me gusta spiders. So I called in reinforcements to remove said spider. But here’s the thing: Josh always wants to transport the spider/insect/whatever the thing is, safely outside which I’m all for. The spider doesn’t have to be killed, it just has to be out of the house. However, the problem is that often times (well I can only remember one time but still) Josh will carry the spider on a tissue and walk towards the door but drop it along the way. And then it disappears and I’m like WE SHOULD HAVE KILLED IT WHEN WE HAD THE CHANCE!!
So, this morning, this particular spider was fast and I hate fast spiders - way too unpredictable. When I see how fast this guy moves, the likelihood of Josh dropping him is much higher and then we have a fast spider running loose in the house and I’m going to wake up at night and find it in my mouth. So I try to say something scary so that he might also be scared and decide to kill it.
“Oh my gosh, its going to jump in your hair!”
But this tactic rarely works and turns out the spider was safely put back into his habitat.
Related: when I lived in Thailand, no one killed spiders/snakes/anything. So I had to shower with spiders all over the bathroom and this was normal. And one time, there was a snake in our house and I ran downstairs to get a steak knife to kill it and all the other girls looked at me in horror as they careful put it in a gym bag to release outside. Ahh memories.
I’ve been meaning to mention this for a while but some of you may remember that Josh and his friend, Andy, rode their bikes from Vancouver to Mexico in 24 days during the summer of 2008. Josh lived to tell about his adventure (Andy did too, thankfully) and Josh wrote about it. His story and photos were so full of awesome that they were recently published in the cycling magazine Embrocation.

Then, Josh helped publish a sciency article relating to his current work. It has lots of big words.

And this Thursday he has his last final. EVER. I’m so proud of him you guys.
